Creating your own Wedding Invitations on a Computer

Creating your own invitations is very do-able...all it takes is patience, time, a computer, a printer, some money, and the willingness to play around with your design until you find what you really like.

Do you have a computer and good printer already? If so then you can buy the blank invitations at any OfficeMax/Staples/Office Depot type of place. If you are looking for fancy invitations, these places also sell Wedding Invitation software. You should NEVER use normal paper stock in your computer! Always make sure the Wedding Invitation paper you are buying says on the box that it can be used with your printer (most likely inkjet.)

If your invitations are going to be very classic, simple with no graphics then you could even use a word processing program such as WordPerfect or Microsoft Word to create your greetings. You can test your invitation wording using a variety of fonts.

To save money (and ruined invitations) I recommend always using plain paper to test out your wedding invitation wording and designs. Then you can line the paper up with the real wedding paper stock. When you hold it up to the light, you can see if it is aligned properly. (Normal printer paper is so thin that you should have no problem seeing through it easily to the real invitation paper behind it.)

Printing your own invitations is especially great for very small weddings (30-25 Invitations)...but as the # of invitations go up...your other "hidden" costs go up such as: Printer cartridges, Paper, Wedding Invitation Stationary Kits, and....MOST importantly of all:

YOUR VALUABLE TIME!

After all...someone has to carefully feed in all the stationary and cards one at a time and check each for errors (such as misalignment.)

Another option I should mention is that large copy places such as Kinkos offer several lovely default card designs that you could get with wedding invitation wording if you don't want to do all the work yourself. (This would be more appropriate for a casual wedding...not for a formal affair!)

Good Luck!
