Bride's World Show Review

2pm, Sunday, January 16th, 2000
Buffalo Convention Center

Fashion Show

The fashion show showcased Season's Bridal and Tuxedo Junction. The bridal dresses mostly stunk! They were almost all over-decorated, long train, victorian bridal dresses. So if you like those styles you should have been there!

The bridesmaid dresses were better. They had several nice styles and colors. I don't even remember seeing many puffy sleeve, butt-bow bridesmaid nightmares on stage.

There were a few Mother-of-the-Bride dresses. I liked several but they could have had more of them and in more styles!

The Tuxedos were the best part of the show! It was great to see what the tuxs look like on the men! My favorite was the zoot suit! I recomment bringing your fiance if you can to one of these fashion shows BEFORE he picks out his tux.

My major compliant was: The announcer did NOT describe the dresses and name the designers as each girl came on stage. After looking at all those dresses, how are you supposed to remember what you loved much less describe it to a shopkeeper?!? POOR PLANNING! Perhaps Season's was afraid you would buy the dress elsewhere? All I have to say to ALL shops that won't tell you the designers: if you offer reasonable prices and good service... You won't have a thing to worry about!!!!

Worthwhile Exhibits

Butterwood Desserts: The most beautiful fondant cakes!!! They didn't hand out cake samples.

Esquire Limo: You get to take a look inside their limos. The inside of the RV-type limo was my favorite because you don't have to worry about hitting your head!

Expressions Photography: Out of all the many photographer's booths I liked this one the most. They had truly artistic work on display! Their prices might not be the cheapest but it looks like you'll be almost sure to receive good pictures!

Whirling Disc Sound: They DJ-ed the fashion show and did a GREAT job. They played great music and were right on cue!

Say Cheesecake: They handed out cheesecake samples. I'm not sure how they tasted since I'm not a big fan of cheescake. They also handed out samples of their cake which was very good! The cakes they had on display looked nice but none of them really stood out in my mind as breathtaking.

Olhson's Bakery: (spelling?) The cake tasted good and I was very impressed by several of the cake designs they had on display!

Scanlon Jewelers: I was impressed by how they took the time to explain their custom jewelry designing process. He told me they have several jewelers on the premises at all times. It's worth visiting their shop before you make any decisions on where to buy your rings!

I'll add more comments about the booths when I have time so check back soon.

My Final Misc Comments

Several of the bakeries handed out free cake samples. Yum! A salon actually styled your hair in their booth! It was informative to see the insides of several different limos on display. Several booths were handing out free pens or other little trinkets. It was great to be able to compare so many photographer's work at one time! (That is probably one of the most useful reasons to attend the show.) The show was VERY crowded! Be prepared to be bumped around rudely by many future brides and their families! Not a pleasant place if you don't like crowds!

TIPS:

- Bring a bottle of water.
- Eat before you go.
- Have someone drop you and your friends off at the door and pick you up later.
- Be there on-time because the crowd was huge!
- Put in more of your door prize tickets at booths you really like.
- Write down which booths you put in your door prize tickets. You'll have to visit them all after the fashion show to find out if you won.
- Visit every booth that really interests you BEFORE the fashion show if you can or attend the earlier show. The booths didn't stay open very long at all after the 3pm fashion show.
- Pick your seats for the fashion show early(2:30pm or so.) You could bring someone who doesn't like to walk around to save the seats for you.
- If you have a friend with you who might be getting engaged, they should also say they are a bride so they can more readily get the brochures and information they might be interested in.
- Bring your fiance if he's involved in planning the details of the wedding. He'd find it useful to look at the photography, tuxs, and limos. And of course he'd enjoy sampling the cakes.
- Try to go to this show or one like it BEFORE you start making your wedding arrangements. You'll be very bummed if you have all your deposits down and see something better at the show! Attending the show changed my mind about some of the vendors I planned on using for my wedding.
